Hello,
I have just bought the EG-M34A but I can't get to find the NMT selection at the setup menu.
Althought I used a USB flash with the syb8634.nmt file the EG can't get to read it.
Can anyone give my any advise?
I want to connect an external USB drive to the EG and access it through the network.
Thank you
Vassilis

If you are trying to install apps, then you MUST have a sata drive installed, you can flash the firmware w/o a sata drive connected though.
And (looking at your .nmt file) you're trying to load some apps ![]() |

Oh and if you want network connection, you need the apps pack. the app pack contains ftp/smb.
but as above, you only can install that if you have a sata drive. That's the reason, why i opened my external disk (wich is a sata drive) Copied my complete ex. hdd to a server, hooked it up to the m34a, formatted it, installed al the things i wanted and loaded my data back to the disk. Better then a ext. hdd (mine had a power supply, so i got rid of that, much more "wife-proof" ![]() Xs |

That's an answer. Thank you
I was looking forward for the NMT utilities and I couldn't find the way with an external USB HD.
So now I have to buy an e-sata HD and plug it in.
Do I transfer the file for the utilities from a USB stick to the sata drive?

You wanna buy a sata drive, not e-sata, because e-sata uses the "I" connector en sata the "L" connector. You can use e-sata but then you have to buy a sata 2 e-sata coverter cable or something like that. (On the nmt forum, there is a thread from somebody who hooked his external e-sata hdd to the m34a)
Once you installed a sata hdd, you plugin the usb disk and follow the wizard instructions. Please beware that when you do this, the hdd will be formated!!! (so back up al data first), the setup creates 3 partitions in ext3 (you wanna chooce format in ext3, otherwise your apps won't work). one for apps, one for storage and one for swop. Another nice thing to know: make sure you run the latest firmware and before putting somthing on your usb pen, make sure it's formated in FAT. When you're all done, you have an nice hdd where you can install your apps and drop your media (all over the network) Xs Make sure that your usb pen only contains the syb8634.nmt file (in the root) |

You need a SATA drive, connected with the cable that came with the M34A. eSATA is a way of connecting an external encased drive, like USB. I think eGreat's documentation (still?) calls it eSATA even though it isn't. |

OK. So from what I understand I need to buy an internal SATA drive because all external SATA drives have eSATA cable that are not compadible with the SATA cable of the M34A. (you need a SATA PCI card to achieve connectivity with an external SAT drive)
Is that right? And then...do you leave the internal drive without a protection case? |

hmm almost: you need a sata drive to achieve the most simple connection (just by hooking up the sata drive with the provided sata cable that came with yor m34a) However, you can connect a external hdd with a e-sata connection, just read this thread: http://www.networkedmediatank.com/showthread.php?tid=25571
So to keep it simple: buy a external hdd with a sata hdd inside (so you have to ask or look into the external case, for example a iomega prestige 640 gb) then open up the case, remove the connector print (the print turns the sata conection too a usb connector and a power connector) and place the sata cable (the one that came with your m34a) on the hdd. Then you have a hdd with the case on it. (and if you like cutting, you can even place the side cover back) You get it? hmm, let me see if i can find some pictures for you ![]() |
